Where To Travel

When I travel I love meeting locals, discovering regional food and wine and getting off the beaten path! Some of my favourite destinations, hotels, restaurants and travel experiences are in the below travel guides. I also host behind-the-scenes food & wine tours in Europe and Australia for people who’d rather be travellers than tourists.

Top 5 Southern Italy - regional guide (Matera)
Italian Hotels - Londra Palace - view

Italy

I adore Italy! Venice, Amalfi, Rome and Florence of course, but also lesser-known Emilia-Romagna, Basilicata and the backroads of Lombardy and Sardinia. Let me take you there!

Switzerland - Bernese Alps

Switzerland

I’m blessed to have seen Switzerland through the eyes of my Swiss husband, his family and friends. I love its hearty food, crisp white wines, rich history and breathtaking scenery.

Paris city guide - Covered Passages - Food-Wine-Travel with Roberta Muir

France

Of course I love Paris, its wine bars, bistros, museums and markets, but I also love exploring the regions from Germanic Alsace, to remote Brittany and the unique Basque country.

Ireland Cliff Coast - Loop Head

Ireland

Wildly beautiful scenery; superb local produce; great beer, music and pubs; and some of the most hospitable people you’d hope to meet … what’s not to love about Ireland?

Scottish Highlands - North Coast 500

Britain

From the windswept Scottish Highlands, to south-west England’s rolling farmland and Wales’ impossibly green valleys, this tiny island offers so much great food, drinks and times.

Sydney City Guide - ferry in front of opera house with harbour bridge above

Australia

As much as I love travelling abroad, I adore coming home. Some of the best food, wine and travel experiences I’ve had are right here in our own backyard.

Cape Town - Bo Kaap

Other Destinations

While I’m always drawn back to Europe and love exploring Australia, I’ve also had some wonderful travel experiences in less visited destinations.

Florence - Four Seasons

Where to Stay

Whether it’s a grand Medici palazzo in Florence or a ger on the steppes of Mongolia, the right accommodation creates a sense of place and a truly memorable experience.

Italian Food Markets - Quadrilatero Bologna

Where to Eat

From Michelin stars to humble diners, I love a new food experience. I ask the locals where to eat, visit food markets and producers, and peek behind the scenes wherever I am.

Top 5 International Dishes - Razor Clams - Apicius

What to Eat

Here are some of the best dishes I've ever eaten while travelling. While some may no longer be on the menu, you can assume the relevant restaurants are a good place to get a great meal.

Best French Markets - Marché Aux Puces De Saint-Ouen, Paris

Where to Shop

I love shopping when I travel and am usually drawn to markets and food stores, though not always. I love the quirky and unique and am always on the lookout for the perfect souvenir.

Just back from the most amazing trip to Emilia-Romagna with Roberta. Not only the home of Prosciutto di Parma, Parmigiano-Reggiano & Balsamic Vinegar, but scenery to die for and more quaint and exciting restaurants and cafés than you ever imagined. My wife and I recently joined Roberta's Emilia-Romagna tour. We enjoyed all the temptations offered and learned a lot about that part of Italy, especially its food and wine culture. What was most impressive was Roberta's local knowledge of people and places. The planning and effort she put into making the whole experience seem effortless was remarkable.
