Vow Renewal Ceremony

Vow Renewal Ceremony

A vow renewal ceremony is a re-commitment ceremony. It’s a public celebration of the commitment you’ve already made to each other, a chance to renew the vows you originally made or make new ones and a declaration of your ongoing commitment. A vow renewal can also be an opportunity to reflect your spiritual beliefs and observe cultural traditions.

It is a celebration of your love, commitment and the unique bond that binds you together. It’s about connection and taking a moment to pause, breathe, and embrace the significance of a new chapter in your lives and/or reflect on all you’ve achieved in the past chapter.

It’s also about sharing your story, promises and hopes with those who matter most to you.

Whether grand and glamorous or small and intimate, it reflects who you are as a couple.
From heartfelt vows to a cheeky joke or two, your ceremony should feel authentic.

As your celebrant, I’m here to help you craft a ceremony that’s genuinely you.

Couple’s may choose to have a vow renewal ceremony for many reasons.

  • if they’ve been legally married elsewhere and now wish to celebrate their vows with family and friends in a different location
  • if they’ve been married for some time and wish to publicly renew their commitment
  • to mark a special anniversary
  • for some other reason such as a separation or serious illness

Under Australian law, a married person cannot remarry unless they are divorced or widowed, even if they wish to ‘remarry’ their current partner.

Therefore, a vow renewal ceremony is not a marriage and does not have legal standing.

It can however be almost identical to a legal marriage ceremony, except for the three mandatory elements (the Monitum, legal vows and signing of an official register).
