This food and wine weekend kicks off with lunch at Vale Creek Wines followed by a tour and guided tasting at Renzaglia Wines with winemaker Sam Renzaglia. It includes a truffle dinner at Matt Moran’s Rockley Hotel, truffle hunt at Fish River Truffles, and lunch at the outstanding farm-to-plate restaurant Megalong Lot101.
The below itinerary covers the tour highlights, the order of activities may vary.
We'll kick off with a light lunch (with a glass of wine) overlooking the vines at Vale Creek Wines. The winery is 15km south of Bathurst, fronting Queen Charlotte Vale Creek. Hosts Gerard & Jacqueline will be happy to guide you on a tasting of their other wines.
Next a behind-the-scenes winery tour and in-depth guided tasting at Renzaglia Wines with winemaker Sam Renzaglia. We'll taste from barrel to compare with bottled earlier vintages and walk among the vines to learn more about how they're grown.
Then onto the quaint village of Rockley, almost lost in time. We'll check into Matt Moran's Rockley Pub and have time before dinner to take a self-guided walking tour (map provided), have a game of pool, or just relax in the front bar with the locals.
Matt's Head Chef, Simon Borghesi, and his team will prepare a bespoke truffle dinner for us using seasonal local produce and a generous shaving of the black truffles we'll be foraging for tomorrow. All washed down with more delicious Renzaglia wines.
After breakfast, we're off to Fish River Truffiere. Truffle dog Frank, and growers Carmine and Lisa, will lead our truffle hunt among the oak and hazel trees. We'll dig for these enticing black nuggets and learn how they're grown, harvested and graded.
Driving back to Sydney, we'll detour into magical Megalong Valley for lunch at the outstanding farm-to-plate restaurant Megalong Lot101. Be ready for a fascinating, delicious afternoon with chef Colin Barker and his team. This is world-class dining at its finest.
Not ready for the weekend to end? Book an extra night (or two) at neighbouring Werriberri Cabins and waken to the magic of morning sunlight on the beautiful Megalong Valley escarpment.
