How To Peel A Peach

How To Peel A Peach (How To Peel A Ripe Peach)

Peaches are one of summer’s great gifts, delicious just as they are, sliced into salads and in desserts; but first we need to get rid of that fuzzy skin. A vegetable peeler is handy for peeling very firm peaches, but that leaves the question of how to peel a peach that’s luscious and ripe. If you’ve ever peeled a tomato by blanching it, you already know this handy technique for peeling a ripe peach.

Here’s how to peel a peach (scroll down for a step-by-step video):

  1. Using a very sharp knife, score a very shallow ‘X’ through the skin from the base of the peach down the sides to the middle, without cutting into the flesh.
  2. Bring a large pan of water to the boil.
  3. Add the peach and blanch for 1 minute.
  4. Use a slotted spoon to scoop the peach out of the water into a large sink of cold water and leave to cool for a minute.
  5. Remove the peach from the water and, starting at the centre of the cross, peel back the skin, which will easily peel away.

We made the pot-sticker dumplings and bang bang chicken from the Chinese class the other night. Once again both exceeded our expectations. My husband keeps saying it’s better than going out to restaurants as the recipes and quality are amazing.

I'm a competent cook whose learned so much from Roberta's online cooking classes. The recipes are yummy and Roberta’s video guidance offers so many little tips to improve flavour and organise the flow of preparation. I enjoy her warmth, sense of humour, and ability to giggle at herself when she occasionally messes up.
