This month’s wine pack is very dear to my heart as it showcases some beautiful wines from my favourite Spanish region: Marco de Jerez. It’s compiled in collaboration with wine importer and Sherry guru, Scott Wasley from The Spanish Acquisition who is very generously offering a 40% discount off the RRP of $164.

Menu 1 – Callejuela Blanco de Hornillos Vino Blanco 2021 (RRP $37.25)

Made from the classic Jerez grape, palomino, this pale gold wine has a dusty, savoury nose and tart, grippy, moreish palate. It hails from Sanlúcar de Barrameda, home of Manzanilla, but unlike Sherry, it’s aged in stainless steel without flor. It has an herbaceous, floral nose and a nice minerality with a hint of iodine. The faint bitterness at the end balances the richness of the marmitako very well.

Menu 2 – Gutiérrez Colosía Oloroso Sherry, 375ml (RRP $41.25)

Rich, nutty Amontillados and Olorosos captivate many experienced Sherry lovers. This pale bronze wine from a small family bodega in Puerto de Santa Maria, on the Atlantic coast southwest of Jerez de la Frontera, is such a wine. It smells like maple-roasted walnuts and tastes of hazelnut and dark tea with a lovely long dry, savoury finish that’s a perfect match for our sweetly spicy Romesco sauce and juicy lamb cutlets.

Menu 3 – Delgado Zuleta ‘La Goya’ Manzanilla, 375ml (RRP $27.50)

Manzanilla started my love affair with Sherry and this classic pasada version, aged for 8 years (almost double the normal time), reminds me why! Pale gold despite its age, bottled before the flor died off, it still has simple seaside flavours with a lovely seashell minerality and finesse. Its bone-dry finish makes it the perfect allrounder with our selection of tapas, to cut through the oil and balance the sweetness of onion and tomato.

Menu 4 – Corta y Raspa Vino de Pasto, Miraflores Alta 2020 (RRP $58)

The Corta y Raspa label represents a collective of small growers making their own low-yield, high-quality palomino wine in Sanlúcar de Barrameda rather than selling their grapes for a minimal amount to the large bodegas. This wine, from José Garcia Gordillo, is aged for 12 months in very old barrels (bota) without flor and has a lovely salinity and minerality to cut through the richness of the garlic chicken. There’s a savoury hit of curry leaf on the nose and I love the touch of sourness at the end to offset the sweetness of the onion!

We made the pot-sticker dumplings and bang bang chicken from the Chinese class the other night. Once again both exceeded our expectations. My husband keeps saying it’s better than going out to restaurants as the recipes and quality are amazing.

Thank you for stocking our pantry with such authentic Ingredients and quality produce. We really like the flexibility of cooking over a couple of days and changing the order we cook the dishes in when we want to. And I love listening to the themed playlist while cooking.

Food, wine and travel! Three of my favourite things! Be Inspired with Roberta has been a wonderful experience and given me more confidence in the kitchen. I have learnt so much, cooked things I never would have attempted without Roberta’s excellent videos, and used ingredients I have never tried before.

I'm a competent cook whose learned so much from Roberta's online cooking classes. The recipes are yummy and Roberta’s video guidance offers so many little tips to improve flavour and organise the flow of preparation. I enjoy her warmth, sense of humour, and ability to giggle at herself when she occasionally messes up.
